NBA Preseason Triple-Header: Three Games, Plenty to Watch

The NBA preseason continues with three intriguing matchups tipping off at 10:00 AM AEDT on Tuesday, October 6, giving basketball fans an early look at new rotations, roster battles and developing team chemistry ahead of the 2026–27 regular season.

For SportsEdge360, preseason basketball comes with an important warning: results and betting lines need to be treated differently from regular-season games. Coaches can restrict starters' minutes, experiment with lineups and give extended opportunities to rookies and players fighting for roster spots.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta opens its preseason at home against a Memphis team entering a new chapter.

One of the biggest attractions is Memphis rookie Cameron Boozer, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, who is expected to make his preseason debut. Memphis is also dealing with several personnel and injury questions as it evaluates its reshaped roster.

Atlanta, meanwhile, has home court and enters the matchup as the early market favourite.

SE360 View

Atlanta -3.5 is understandable given the Hawks' home advantage and Memphis' transitional roster.

However, preseason basketball introduces considerable uncertainty. Rotation length and starter minutes can matter far more than the talent difference between the teams.

Phoenix Suns vs Detroit Pistons

Phoenix begins its preseason with several roster questions of its own.

The Suns retained much of their core while adding new pieces, and the preseason gives the coaching staff its first competitive opportunity to examine combinations and determine which fringe players deserve roster positions.

Detroit enters as the market favourite at home, with the early line sitting around Pistons -3.5.

The relatively lower 217.5 total compared with the other two games also makes this an interesting matchup to monitor.

Detroit's home court and early market support give the Pistons the initial edge.

But again, preseason substitutions can radically change a game during the second half.

New York Knicks vs Philadelphia 76ers

This is arguably the headline matchup of the three.

The defending champion Knicks visit Philadelphia, while the 76ers begin unveiling their new-look roster. The NBA highlighted Philadelphia's potential combination of LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe entering the preseason opener.

New York is taking a cautious approach after its shortened offseason, with reports indicating lighter preseason workloads for its established starters. That could create substantial minutes for bench players and roster hopefuls.

Philadelphia therefore enters as a slight favourite rather than seeing a major gap between the teams.

SE360 View

On paper this matchup carries plenty of star power.

In practice, however, preseason minutes matter more than names on the roster.

Philadelphia -1.5 is tempting, but uncertainty surrounding exactly how long the stars play makes this the game SE360 would rather watch than chase.

The key word across all three games is preseason.

These contests are valuable for evaluating rotations, rookies and roster depth, but they are also among the hardest NBA games to assess from a betting perspective because coaches are not necessarily trying to maximise their chances of winning every possession.

For SportsEdge360, that means information first, discipline second, action only when the edge justifies it.
