WNBA Semifinals Game 2: Four Teams, Two Huge Matchups

The road to the 2026 WNBA Finals continues with another semifinal doubleheader as the New York Liberty face the Atlanta Dream, followed by the Las Vegas Aces against the Golden State Valkyries.

The four remaining teams bring very different strengths to the postseason. New York entered the semifinals after becoming the first No. 8 seed in WNBA history to eliminate a No. 1 seed, while Atlanta reached its first semifinal round since 2016. Golden State, meanwhile, is making more history in only its second WNBA season.

Liberty vs Dream: Can New York Keep Its Playoff Run Going?

New York has already demonstrated that regular-season seeding means little once the postseason begins.

The Liberty eliminated top-seeded Minnesota in the opening round, powered by a roster with significant playoff experience and championship-level talent.

Atlanta, however, presents a different challenge.

The Dream finished the regular season 30-14, while New York finished 26-18, and Atlanta won the final two regular-season meetings between the teams.

At only +2.5, the market is suggesting another competitive contest rather than a clear mismatch.

SE360 View

New York's playoff experience makes the Liberty dangerous as an underdog.

Atlanta deserves respect at home, but getting points with New York creates an interesting early position.

SE360 early lean: Liberty +2.5

Aces vs Valkyries: Golden State Has Made Its Statement

Perhaps the most intriguing number on the board is Golden State sitting as only a slight favorite over the defending champions.

Before the semifinals, Las Vegas had swept Golden State 3-0 during the regular season, and the Aces averaged 89 points per game in those meetings. Golden State nevertheless entered the postseason with the WNBA's top-ranked defense.

Game 1 showed exactly what that defense can do.

Golden State defeated Las Vegas 71-60, with Gabby Williams producing 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. The Valkyries also generated a huge advantage on the offensive glass.

That makes Game 2 a fascinating tactical battle.

Las Vegas has the championship experience and A'ja Wilson, but Golden State has now demonstrated that its defense and rebounding can disrupt the Aces.

SE360 View

At -1.5, Golden State doesn't need to produce a large margin.

If the Valkyries can reproduce their Game 1 defensive pressure and control the boards, the small spread is manageable.

SE360 early lean: Golden State -1.5

Players to Watch

For New York, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu remain central to the Liberty's championship hopes, while Atlanta's Alisha Gray and Rhyne Howard provide the Dream with major scoring and two-way threats.

In the second matchup, the spotlight naturally falls on A'ja Wilson for Las Vegas and Gabby Williams for Golden State. People.com
